Gander Outdoors Michigan Fishing Store Closing M-59 Hall
Deja Vu all over again, Gander Outdoors which used to be Gander Mountainon Hall Road M-59 is going out of business yet again. Not surprising since there's so much competition in the area now after Cabelas opened up their doors, along with Field & Stream, which actually just got bought out by Sportmans Warehouse.
Everytime you turn around a new store is closing or some company is being bought out. I honestly don't like where the country is headed right now with someone like Jimmy Morris owning Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas, all the money going to one family rather than stimulating the local economy through Mom & Pop fishing/hunting shops. Where is this going to lead us??? Maybe it's just inevitable with the internet, companies like Amazon and more automation coming, but if you've ever played the game monopoly, you know the end game.
Anyways, I'm going to head over to Gander Outdoors soon, see what they got on sale, maybe get a discount on some musky and bass lures. I have been killing it the last two Fall seasons with the Strike King Magnum 8.0 Squarebill. I've tried a lot of musky lures over the years, I've never seen a lure so consistent in catching musky, yet this lure was actually made for catching giant bass due to increased body size. I can't remember if Gander Outdoors carries these, I think they carry the Strike King 10XD and the Headbanger so I wouldn't mind picking one of those 6" Headbangers as well, to complete my Headbanger collection with the 9" and 4.5."
Also maybe see if they have any musky baitcasters on sale, a veteran musky angler tipped me off on some Abu Garcia Revos for sale.
I also heard Gamestop and Bed Bath and Beyond might also be in trouble.
Just be sure to keep supporting your local Mom & Pop fishing shops, even if it's just buying live bait, some of the more expensive fishing tackle I buy from Cabelas or Bass Pro due to their great return policy, but if it's just a couple of musky or bass lures, I still head to Lakeside Fishing Shop or Sportsmans Direct. But it won't be long till one of those Lake St. Clair landmarks goes out of business as well.
