Topwater Musky Fishing Lake St. Clair

One of my subscribers had recently messaged me this video of topwater fishing the Metropark region for musky with a whopper plopper, what a great video it turned out to be and it looks like a lot of fun. If you notice in the sky, there's a lot of overcast and clouds, he's also fishing very shallow. While a lot of musky anglers are always going for 50 inch musky in deeper part of the lake, even spending thousands of gas money each year thinking they have to always go to the Canadian side near Thames River for the best musky fishing, they're also missing out on a lot of great musky fishing on the American side in the shallows, especially with topwater lures with the fat bastard and whopper plopper. There's more to this sport than always going for the big ones, doesn't always have to be an egotistical dick measuring contest, but for some, it usually is lol.

Fishing from a kayak alone is a unique experience you have to try bass fishing, but doing it musky fishing, is on another level of fun. Kind of like wader fishing, you feel more close to mother nature and get a thrill seeing the fish that close, especially when they strike real close to your kayak or even jump! It's the ultimate rush!!

This year I plan to get out and do a lot more topwater fishing for musky this year. It can be tough at times, again you gotta look for days where there's overcast, sometimes before a storm front moves in or even right before sundown during the transition phase of dusk to night fall. All three can be prime time factors for topwater musky fishing, as well as the spot. Metropark obviously has always been a good spot for musky fishing in the shallows since it's surrounded by like four rivers along with black creek... As I've shown black creek is a great spot to target some musky, especially big tiger musky, but I suspect going deeper down the rivers of the Clinton and Spillway are probably good to, even in the summer I bet. It's basically also an untapped resource, since everyone always fishes deep and always fishes for the biggest fish. Again, I think there's more to this sport than just catching the biggest fish... Seeing a musky or pike jump, is an experience you have to see for yourself.

This clip was from a few years back, this video doesn't even do this fish justice, because this young musky jumped two more times after this. Seems the Tarpon guys have their panties in a bunch just because I said it was fighting like a Tarpon. And that's the point I'm going to make, musky are a strange species... You'll notice sometimes, when musky feel whalled in, no place to go, they can only go right or left and not straight down, they'll go absolutely fucking ballistic, meaning go straight up. Meaning they'll fight more, this is an experience you're not going to see or feel when always fishing for musky in the deep water. And with all the assholes constantly bitching about spots being stolen and who thinks they're more entitled to a spot than others...

"I'm sorry but i don't care HOW long you have been fishing Lake St Clair, there is NO spot that is "your spot" and I promise you somebody knew about it before you did."

Again shallow regions of the peninsula of metropwark, black creek, spillway and clinton river barely have any musky fishing pressure, untapped resource, so enjoy!

Also goes to show how important speed is important too musky, Michigan Fisherman obviously accidentally casted too close to the angler near shoreline, so he was just trying to reel up very fast to make another cast, then that fire tiger came out of nowhere and tagged it. That's musky fishing in a nutshell, speed is key, especially with prop baits whether it's bucktails down below or whopper ploppers and fat bastards up above.

Here's a great topwater video from the Wandering Yooper, again you're not going to experience this type of musky fishing when you're constantly fishing the deeper end of the lake, try something different, it's all about the experiences as Grandpa Gustafson said. lol I think for a lot of men, their ego will get in the way of trying something different, too busy thinking about one upping one another over the biggest fish, while missing out on other good fun like musky topwater fishing or musky fishing from a kayak in the shallows. A lot of anglers are just set in their ways, I know many fishermen just do the same shit every year like robots!
